When do I pay for my Oversize/Overweight permit?

OSOW applications require payment pre-authorization, but your credit card is not charged until the application is approved.

When you submit an application and are taken to the payment screen, you will see the permit price. To complete the submission process you will be required to enter your credit card details and agree to the terms in order to "Pay". Please note this is a pre-authorization only, as stated on the payment screen. Your credit card is not charged until the municipality approves the permit. Once the permit is approved, the pre‑authorized amount will be charged to your credit card.

Pre-authorizations are only valid for a certain number of days (determined by your bank).  If the application is not approved within that timeframe, the pre-authorization will expire and you will be required to "swipe" your credit card again to pay for the permit.  You are not being charged twice.

If the municipality changes the price of the permit for any reason (increasing or decreasing the fee) the pre-authorization will be cleared and your permit will enter a Payment Due status once approved. You will need to "swipe" your credit card again to pay for the permit. You are not being charged twice as the pre-authorization will clear from your account. This may take up to 10 business days depending on your bank.

Each municipality offers a unique array of permits and some municipalities may require additional review. If a permit application does not match it is likely due to the availability of permits by that municipality. If your permit doesn't match a municipal permit in the system, the application will be submitted without a permit fee pre-authorization. This will allow the municipality to review your application first and assign the correct permit type and fee. If approved, you will need to return to Oxcart to pay for your permit before it can be downloaded or used.

When you reach the payment pre‑authorization screen, you may select ‘Return to Application’ if you are not ready to pay for the permit. You can then save your application instead of submitting it. Saved applications will remain in the Draft Applications table on your dashboard, and you can submit them whenever you are ready. Applications in the Draft Applications table have not been submitted to the municipality. Pre‑authorization is required before an application is considered complete and can be reviewed by the municipality.
